Lost in the Archives: 10 Albums I Enjoyed in 2010

Every year, a recurring item on my list of New Year’s resolutions is “make a year-end music list.” Unfortunately, this just never seems to happen. Though I do better in some years than in others, I never seem to have the time to listen to all of the major releases in a given calendar year and critically evaluate them.

I wrote those words in 2010, apparently, and they’re still as true today as they were 5 years ago. As a result of participating in the Winter 2015 Mini Bloggiesta this year, I’ve been taking some time to look through my archives here at A Modern Girl, and I’ve unearthed a few draft posts that seem to have been lost. It turns out that I had gone so far as to actually select the albums for this post, but I never uploaded it. Perhaps I was waiting to see if I’d change my mind. Perhaps I was planning to write some magnum opus on the state of music in 2010. I honestly can’t remember. At the beginning of 2011 when I probably wrote this, I was living in Tokyo, Japan for my research. But since I got this far with the post, I thought I’d share it with all of you. Flashback to 2010 again:

And this year, I did a particularly bad job, being preoccupied by defending my dissertation prospectus, doing intensive language training, and fretting over various research-related matters. But I decided to set a lower bar for myself this year and just give a list of albums that I enjoyed during 2010, along with a sample track from each. These albums were not all released during 2010. And I’m certainly not saying that they are the “best of” anything in particular. But over the past year, I enjoyed listening to them.
